Customs JIAP foils attempt to smuggle heroin worth Rs40.18m

KARACHI: The staff of the Drug Enforcement Cell (DEC) of Customs Collectorate deputed at Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) has foiled smuggling of narcotics to the foreign country.

According to the details, on the tip-off by higher authorities, the staff of the Drug Enforcement Cell (DEC) Jinnah International Airport has beefed up the security as well as surveillance to turn down any attempt of smuggling.

During the strict checking, the customs team pursuing an information that narcotics would be smuggled to UK through a courier service, mounted vigilance and spotted a parcel of ladies hand bags.

The customs officer informed Custom Today that the parcel of ladies hand bags was booked by DHL courier service to be shipped to Blackburn Lancashire, United Kingdom. The detailed examination of the said parcel was carried during which more than 4.18 kilograms of heroin powder was recovered.

The brown heroin powder was tactfully concealed in ladies hand bags. After its recovery the staff seized smuggled brown heroin powder and tentative value of seized goods is estimated at Rs40.18 million.

An FIR is lodged against the arrested consignor and investigations started.
