Customs JIAP foils bid to smuggle 3.8kg marijuana worth Rs15m

KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs team deputed at Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) thwarted an attempt to smuggle 3.8 kilograms of marijuana into the country via International Mail Office (IMO). The market value of seized marijuana is Rs15 million.

Sources said that after receiving instructions from Collector Adeem Khan, Additional Collector Muhammad Faysal Khan increased vigilance at the IMO.

On October 19, 2024, Customs team, including AC Sharjeel Wassan and staff, monitored EMS import parcels from . At around 11 am, a suspicious parcel booked by Tan from Bangkok, in the name of Mrs. Mirza Junaid of DHA Karachi, was intercepted. Concealed in boxes labeled as food items and candies, the parcel contained 3.8 kilograms of marijuana.

Laboratory tests confirmed the substance was marijuana. The driver of the vehicle carrying the parcel had fled the scene before the discovery. The marijuana was seized and an FIR is being registered against accused persons.
