Customs JIAP foils bid to smuggle currency worth Rs120m abroad

KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs team deputed with Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) with a joint operation with Airport Security Force (ASF) foiled an attempt to smuggle 616,000 Euros (Rs130 million) to Dubai.

Sources said that on Customs team intercepted two passengers, namely Ubaid Siddiqui son of Muhammad Afzal and Aqsa Siddiqui daughter of Muhammad Afzal while they were travelling to Dubai via EK-605 and recovered 616,000 Euros (Rs120 million) from their baggage at Joint Examination Counter at international departure lounge of JIAP Karachi.

Information was passed through Additional Collector Yousuf Magsi to Assistant Collector Ms. Azka to the effect that attempt would be made to smuggle foreign currency out of the country.

Customs staff deputed at JIAP led by Superintendent Jamal Zia intercepted the suspected passengers travelling to Dubai and recovered large quantity of foreign currency from their baggage.

The accused brother and sister have been arrested and FIR is being lodged under relevant provisions of law.

Further investigations are still in progress till the filing of this report.
