Customs JIAP seizes prohibited medicines worth Rs3.2m

KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs team deputed at Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) has apprehended an accused along with prohibited medicine worth millions of rupees.

Sources told Customs Today that on the tip-off by higher authorities, staff of Customs posted at Arrival Hall enhanced checking and surveillance during which a passenger namely Mirza Waseem Baig was intercepted on suspicion.

The customs team inquired regarding the travel documents and conducted checking of the luggage during which prohibited medicine Albumin (Human) and NovoMix 30 FlexPen in commercial quantities was recovered and value of the medicine is estimated at Rs 3.2 million in the international market.

The passenger Mirza Waseem Baig came from Jeddah in transit from UAE by M/s Emirates Airlines flight EK-600. The passenger was diverted to red channel and detailed examination of his hand trolley led to the recovery of medicine Albumin (Human) and NovoMix 30 FlexPen in commercial quantities.

Case has also been lodged to trace out real faces, abettors and collaborators to bust the gang/cartel involved in this crime whereas further investigations are underway.
