Peshawar Customs foils bid to smuggle gold bar from Bacha Khan Airport

PESHAWAR: Collectorate of Customs Air Freight Unit (AFU) has foiled a bid to smuggle 10 tola gold bar from Peshawar to Dubai through Bacha Khan International Airport.

Sources told Customs Today that Customs Inspector Safdar Hussain was performing his duty at departure hall of Peshawar Airport along Sepoy Abdur Rehman when gold bar weighting ten tola was detected. The net worth of the seized gold valve Rs0.75 million.

The passenger was travelling through PA 610 from Dubai to Pakistan during regular checking the gold biscuit was recovered from passenger Amrood Khan.

The passenger had no authenticity for possession of Gold which is essential as far the foreign exchange manual. Therefore the gold was seized for violation of section 2 (s) 139 of Customs Act 1969 and u/s 168 was registered against him. The passenger also violated section 3 (1) of Import Export Act 1950 and baggage rules.

The customs inspector informed that smuggling of items usually occurs in attempt to bypass import and export laws and taxes. As a precious metal, gold is the 5th most smuggled item in the world, beating out food, cigarettes, and money.
