Customs JIAP thwarts bid to smuggle narcotics from Thailand

KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) thwarted an attempt to smuggle narcotics worth Rs2,250,000.

Sources told that customs team deputed at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi, intercepted a parcel containing narcotics at the International Mail Office (IMO).

Collector Customs Adeem Khan directed Additional Collector Muhammad Faysal Khan and Assistant Collector Sharjeel Abbas Wasan, to enhance monitoring suspicious packages.

 The customs team detained an EMS post parcel declared as ‘Fresh Galangal (Thai Ginger)’ from Bangkok, Thailand, addressed to Muhammad Usama Mahmood of Gulistan-e-Johar, Karachi. Upon examination and subsequent lab testing, the parcel was found to contain 500 grams of marijuana (cannabis), valued at Rs2,250,000.

 A seizure was effected on September 2, 2024, and an FIR has been registered and efforts are underway to apprehend the recipient and other individuals involved in the smuggling operation.
