The bail plea of Irfan is said to have been rejected due to the seriousness of the crime. The accused may file his bail plea before the high court.

The Collectorate of Customs Preventive officials last week foiled a bid to smuggle 3.135 kg gold from Dubai into Lahore.

The customs officials caught Irfan Tariq, a resident of Lahore Cantt, with gold worth Rs 12.5 million while misusing green channel at the Allama Iqbal International Airport.

The passenger was coming from Dubai to Lahore from a Shaheen Airline flight No-767. The customs authorities frisked the accused before Deputy Collector of Customs Usman Bajwa and seized gold ornaments in the presence of two witnesses. The accused failed to produce duty clearance documents.

The customs officials have registered a case under Customs Act 1969 against the passenger and arrested him.
