Customs keeps vigilant eye on smuggling of methamphetamine: Chief Collector Zahid Khokhar

KARACHI: Chief Collector-Enforcement (South) Muhammad Zahid Khokhar has said that the Pakistan Customs has kept a vigilant eye on the smuggling of methamphetamine to and from the country.

Talking to Customs Today exclusively at his office, he said that the enforcement team of Pakistan Customs has secret information that some unscrupulous elements are trying to smuggling a chemical “methamphetamine”, using in formation of lethal drugs namely “Strawberry Quick” and Met Quick etc.

The Chief Collector-Enforcement (South) further said that the Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) of Customs Preventive has got a report that the said lethal chemical is being smuggled from the border of Iran. He added that the chemical has a high value in international market.

Responding to a query, Zahid Khokhar said that Iran borders with its neighbouring countries are porous and that is why smuggling of contraband items is continuing. However, the Pakistan Customs is beefing up its security at those borders, he said.

The Chief Collector-Enforcement (South) said that the estimated cost of one kilogram “methamphetamine” is Rs 10 million and unscrupulous elements are smuggling the said chemical from Pakistan to Middles East countries, as it has very high demand in those countries.

Zahid Khokhar further stated that the ASO has some information that this chemical is also being used in the country as well and drugs containing “Methamphetamine” is being used in posh areas of the metropolis.
