Customs Lahore seizes illegally imported items worth Rs 613m

LAHORE: Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation Customs, on the instructions and guidance of Director Imtiaz Ahmad Khan, has seized illegally imported goods and articles worth Rs 613 million involving duty and taxes worth Rs 377 million. The directorate registered 132 cases during Financial Year 2014-15.

As per details, the Customs I&I Lahore anti-smuggling wing conducted various anti-smuggling operations and registered 132 cases, impounding illegally imported goods and articles during the period under review from July to June 2014-15 .

The anti-smuggling team of Customs I&I Lahore registered 13 cases during July to February 2014-15 and impounded goods and vehicles including 12 vehicles, 310,555 yards of cloth, 257 tyres and tubes, Rs 8.26 million auto parts, 725 gallons of mobil oil, 4400 cartons of cigarettes, 2225 units of electronic goods, 213 blankets, 1443 kg pan parag, zafrani patti, 120, 000 kg gutka of all brands, Rs 240 million miscellaneous items including foreign made cosmetics, plastic dana Iranian made tiles and other such items.

The goods which were impounded during the first month of the FY 2014-15 were valued at Rs 76 million involving duty and taxes worth Rs 51 million while during the month of August the team impounded illegal items worth Rs 93 million involving taxes worth Rs 41 million during the period under review.

The Customs Investigation and Intelligence Lahore seized contraband items worth Rs 14 million involving duty and taxes worth Rs 14 million during the month of September while in the month of October the anti-smuggling team confiscated articles and vehicles worth Rs 61 million involving duty and taxes worth Rs 32 million.

The Customs I&I anti-smuggling team consisting Nadeem Ahsan, Asad Farooq, Sohail Murtaza, Saad Iqbal, Arif  Hamid, Muhammad Hussain and Hamid Babar operated successfully under the surveillance of additional director Mohsin Rafique and superintendents Nasir Minhas and Manawar Khan.
