Customs signs MoU with courier company to deliver rebate cheques to exporters

ISLAMABAD: Customs Collectorate Islamabad has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Leopard Courier Service to deliver the rebate cheques to exporters at there doorsteps.

Collector Dr Arslan told Customs Today that the Collectorate has already paid from Rs 13 million to Rs 14 million rebate claims to exporters during the last six months and will clear rest of rebate claims soon.

Collector Arslan said that Collectorate adopted the procedure to clear all pending claims on priority basis.

He said that Customs Collectorate already signed a MoU with Leopard Courier Service. Now the above said will responsible to deliver the rebate cheaques to exporters to their door steps and the exporter will pay Rs100 to the courier company against this service.

Pakistan Customs issued export rebate claims amounting to Rs8.24 billion during fiscal year 2014/2015, which is 3.93 percent higher as compared to Rs7.93 billion issued in 2013-14, according to data released by Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

A sum of Rs2.417 billion was issued to textile sector during the last fiscal year, up 37 percent as against Rs1.764 billion paid in 2013/2014.

Rebate issued to leather sector during the period under review stood at Rs1.736 billion during 2014/2015 as compared with Rs1.698 billion in 2013/2014, depicting an increase of 2.2 percent.

Carpet and handicraft received rebates amounting Rs112 million and sport goods industry received Rs348 million during 2014/2015. The surgical and cutlery have received customs rebates amounting Rs1.1 billion during 2014/15.

Other export sectors claimed rebate of Rs2.141 billion last fiscal, which is 30.6 percent down as compared to Rs3.088 billion paid to other exporting sectors in 2013-14.

Collectorate has paid Rs200 rebates to exporters in last six months of financial year 2015-16 and whish to pay all the pending cases of rebates of exporters Collector said.

Collector said that Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar in his recent budget speech announced that the government would issue rebate claims for the year 2014-15 to the exporters on priority basis. Following the directives, the FBR has planned to release the rebate claims to the exporters with the start of the next Fiscal Year 2016-17 in order to boost the export of the country.
