Customs managers need quality information, reliable analysis for decision-making: Haroon Akhtar

ISLAMABAD: Adviser to the Prime Minister for Revenue Haroon Akhter has said that the Customs managers need quality information and reliable analysis to take strategic decisions in the department.

Addressing to the Customs officials at Margalla Dry Port, he said that to celebrate January 26 as the International Customs Day has become a customary event. However, all the Customs officials should refresh their resolve to facilitate international trade, ensure compliance and enforce the customs laws.
This year dedicated team highlight the importance of automation and information technology . He said we are living in the era of information technology and the fast development in the field of information and communication technologies in the last two decades, the entire world has become a global village minimizing thousands kilometer distance to a click on key board which takes you to the place of your choice anywhere in the world without any requirement of any visa or travel efforts.

The communication and information technology has cross all barriers and we have to be open and facilitative in sharing information. Throughout the years, the WCO member promotes partnership with the business community to improve  performance which is of great benefits to the customs administration and business community as well.

The knowledge based culture require analysis , produce and communicates  knowledge to customs administration, the policy makers, the business community and the media. In other words in the age of information technology the modern Customs administration needs not only to remain an enforcement agency but to operate as a knowledge network by sharing information with its members and customs stack holders, multiplying power in  impacting the global community and rather withholding the Information  In this new era of internet and globalization, online communities have risen to share information and expertise on a number of issues and matters .

The WCO secretariat while realizing the importance of communication launched “ Club de la reform , in online community for custom officers and researchers to share knowledge on topics related to customs and international trade . To fully coop with the changing world and to operate smartly  in this era of information sharing professional training is the utmost requirement of the quality e-custom enforcement activities now needs a single access point for an upgraded e-learning platform and easy access at the regional and national level to a network of regional collaboration  and human resource . We need to organize IT conferences and exhibitions and the technology and e-education . Such kind of events are intend to create a platform for policy makers and business community to discuss deliberate and sort out a frame work to enforce the custom law without compromising on facilitating the trading community . As a custom administration our objectives are define and in a particular direction of enforcement and facilitation.

We need to take a few extra steps to educate ourselves to develop a win win partnership with the trading community on the basis of our knowledge which we share through the e-learning process of the custom administration . We continue to seek our business partners and other government ministries and agencies to share more knowledge for better understanding each other and to enhance cooperation / coordination and colobaration . In the end he appreciate the chief collector (North ) and The collector Customs Islamabad and their team for arranging a beautiful event .
