Customs NIIA foils bid to smuggle half kg gold to Dubai

ISLAMABAD: Collector MCC Islamabad Seema Raza Bokhari said that Customs staff of NIIA foiled an attempt of smuggling half kilogram of gold to Dubai.

According to details, the Collector told that the Customs authorities in a joint operation with ASF foiled an attempt to smuggle 500 grams of gold to Dubai, adding that passenger Muhammad Salman was departing to Dubai via Emirates Airlines when scanning of his baggage found to contain something suspicious.

On detailed examination, four gold bullion each weighing 10 tolas found from the baggage concealed in the cloths. The gold is estimated at Rs 3.5 million. The Customs authorities seized the gold and placed the passenger under arrest after lodging FIR.

Initial investigation revealed that the passenger is a jeweller by profession and he intended to sell the gold in Dubai. The case has been sent to Investigation Branch for further investigation, Seema Raza concluded.
