Customs NIIA foils bid to smuggle 1.4kg heroin worth Rs20m to Jeddah

ISLAMABAD: Collectorate of Customs team deputed at New Islamabad International Airport (NIIA) seized 1.4 kilogram ice heroin from a passenger Arif, a resident of Swabi, who was travelling to Jeddah by Turkish Airlines worth Rs20 million.

Sources told Customs Today that Collector Seema Raza Bokhari received credible information that huge quantity of narcotics would be smuggled from New Islamabad International Airport (NIIA) to Saudi Arabia so the said information was passed on to Assistant Collector Farheen Zahra who made all possible measures and identified the person who was holding Pakistani passport No HYM8303 at departure lounge.

After checking the luggage of accused, the Customs staff found a sweet box full of “Rasgulas” 42 pieces, when the staff broke one piece of sweet they found ice heroin in it which was tactfully concealed in polyethylene packs.

The Customs staff arrested smuggler Muhammad Arif son of Ghulam Khan resident of Swabi and registered FIR against the accused while samples of seized ice heroin were sent for laboratory examination. The case was forwarded to Customs Investigation and Prosecution (I&P) department for further investigation.
