Customs NIIA seizes Rs65m of smuggled goods during four months of FY 2018-19

ISLAMABAD: Customs team deputed at New Islamabad International Airport (NIIA) seized Rs65.10 million of smuggled goods during first four months of Fiscal Year 2018-19.

Additional Collector Nisar Ahmad Phularwal told Customs Today that during the above-said period the Customs staff seized huge quantity of foreign currency including US$ 40,000, Euro 100,000, UK Pounds 1100, Saudi Riyal 307400, UAE dinar 430,000, Qatri Riyal 41,600, Oman Riyal 2220, Kuwait Dinar 435 and Bahrain Dinar 500 only. The Customs staff of NIIA seized total currency worth Rs47.16 million.

Additional Collector Nisar said that the NIIA staff also seized 239 assorted smuggled mobile phones worth Rs4.32 million. He said that the NIIA staff also seized 1430 kilograms of non-duty paid foreign origin gold worth Rs7.24 million.

Nisar further stated that from July to October of Fiscal Year 2018-19, the NIIA customs staff seized 34 kilogram of silver worth R3 million whereas the staff seized 846 bottles of liquor worth Rs3.38 million. During the above-said period, the Customs staff seized total smuggled goods worth Rs65.10 million.
