ISLAMABAD: The Customs North Region has reportedly collected Rs 3.088 billion in the wake of duty and taxes against the given target of Rs 3.12 billion during the month of October.
According to details, the performance of the North Region remained satisfactory regarding the collection of duty and taxes during the first month of the second quarter of FY 2016-17. The region consists of Model Customs Collectorates, Islamabad, Samberial, Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and Peshawar. Chief Collector Sarwat Tahira heads all the collectorates and she has directed all officials to meet the revenue targets.
The Islamabad Customs was given target of Rs 1,145 million, while it collected Rs 623.74 million during the said period. It could not meet the target due to extra holidays and recent political instability in the capital city during last week of October.
The Peshawar Customs was given target of Rs 1,662 million and it surpassed the target by collecting Rs 1,852 million. On exceeding the revenue collection targets, the Federal Board of Revenue has appreciated the performance of Peshawar Customs Collector Qurban Ali.
The Gilgit-Baltistan Customs was given target of Rs 216 million, while the department collected Rs 351 million under the heads of duty/taxes and surpassed the target. Officials said that trade under China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) posed a positive impact on revenue collection of GB Customs, adding that first covey consisting of many trucks carrying consignments had arrived Pakistan from China during last week of October.
The Sambrial Customs, which is an export-oriented collectorate, was not given any target for October, but it collected Rs -36.37 million.
