Customs North region seizes NDP goods worth Rs415m in different operations

ISLAMABAD: Collectorate of Customs North Region Collector Dr. Asif Mehmood Jah has said that Customs North Region seized non-duty paid goods worth Rs415 million during the month of August.

Talking with Customs Today during exclusive talk he said that keeping vision of present government to curb menace of smuggling, the Customs North region seized goods worth Rs415.37 million during the month of August 2020, the seized goods include NDP (non-duty paid vehicles) dry/ fresh fruits, gold bard, foreign origin fabric, foreign origin currency, tires, electronics, and other miscellaneous goods.

He said that the Customs North comprises four Collectorates i.e. Model Customs Collectorates of Islamabad, Gilgit Baltistan, MCC (Appraisement and Facilitation) Peshawar and MCC (Enforcement and Compliance) Peshawar covering Islamabad/Rawalpindi, the whole of KP as well as the merger of erstwhile FATA, he added that during the month of August MCC Peshawar and Islamabad performance was outstanding against smuggling.

The Chief Collector North further told that the MCC Islamabad was able to seized goods and NDP vehicles worth Rs90.4 million during the month of August 2020, similarly MCC Enforcement and Compliance Peshawar seized goods and NDP vehicles worth Rs324.97 million including a mega case of gold worth Rs90 million at Torkham border.

He said that Peshawar ASO also seized betel nuts worth Rs46 million and foreign origin currency worth Rs3.97 million despite the fact that transportation of smuggled goods was considerably reduced due to closer of Western border and markets for the couple of months and fencing of Pak-Afghan border in KP (Khyber Pakhtoon Khawa).

He told that in is pertinent to mention here that considerable number of these cases was made on specific information pertaining to smuggled goods kept in concealment or mixed with other goods.

Moreover, he mentioned that after Javed Ghani assumed the charge as Chairman FBR and Syed Tariq Huda as Member Customs (Operations) strict directives were issued to all the enforcement formations to utilize and mobilize all resources for effecting mega cases and curbing the menace of smuggling in close coordination and liaison with other law enforcement agencies.

In line with above directions field formation of North region made all out efforts for affecting mega cases and achieving maximum revenue for Government of Pakistan the Chief Collector North concluded
