ISLAMABAD: Customs North Region achieved anti smuggling as well as auction target which was allocated for the financial year 2019-20.
According to details the annual revenue target was Rs1330 million whereas the North Region achieved 12 percent more than the target assigned despite the fact that due to lock down and 144 orders the auctions were not regularly held, however few auctions were held where strict SOPs (standard operation procedure) were adopted.
The official sources informed that North Region seized goods worth Rs8.351 billion during FY (financial year) 2019-20 which is Rs1.289 billion more than target of Rs7.162 billion assigned for the same period.
The sources told that there are the highest seizures of smuggled goods all over Pakistan, the seized goods were including non duty paid vehicles, dry fresh fruits, jewelry, smuggled petrol and diesel, dry milk, foreign origin fabric, narcotics, tires, cigarettes, electronic and other miscellaneous goods.
The sources told that during FY 2019-20 the North Region comprises Customs Collectorates Peshawar KPK, Islamabad, Sialkot and Gilgit Baltistan made magnificent cases, it adding that the Customs Collectorate Peshawar’s Customs Station DI Khan under a secret information gathered by Additional Collector Khial Muhammad made a mega case of 1080 kilogram of chars in worth of Rs330 million despite facts that transportation of smuggled goods is greatly reduced due to closer of Western border and markets for last couple of months.
It is pertinent to mention that some cases were affected on specific information where smuggled goods were kept in concealment mixed with other goods moreover ever since joining of Tariq Huda as Member Customs (Operations) strict directives were issued to all enforcement to utilized and mobilized all resources for effecting mega cases and curbing the menace of smuggling altogether.
In line with these above directions field formation of North region made all out efforts and geared up anti smuggling operations for effecting huge cases which resulted in surpassing the assigned target. Ends
