Customs officer & currency smuggler held with Saudi Riyal 76,500

ISLAMABAD: The Directorate Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Federal board of Revenue, has foiled an attempt of currency smuggling of Saudi Riyal 76,500 to Dubai and arrested two persons including a customs officer appointed at the airport.

According to Director General Office Islamabad, speaking exclusively to Customs Today, the regional office, Customs Enforcement, Karachi, on a tip-off, recovered the currency being smuggled into Dubai by a passenger Muhammad Yaseen Passport No: FX 808001 at the Jinnah International Airport. Superintendent Muhammad Afzal of Regional Office, Customs Enforcement, Karachi, has also been arrested. When Yaseen arrested and handed over to Superintendent Customs Muhammad Afzal, accused offered him Rs. three lac bribe. Afzal accepted the offer and released him. The informer passed on the information to the Customs Intelligence who arrested the superintendent with the help of local police at the gate of his house and recovered three lac rupees from his car.
