Customs officer issued notice on not attending hearing

KARACHI: Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has issued a show cause notice to Customs Investigation Officer Muhammad Riaz for not attending the hearing of 3163 liters of Iranian diesel smuggling case.

During the hearing, accused Ghulam Hussain and Abdul Ghani were present on bail vide order dated July 2, 2016; however special public prosecutor and investigation officer were absent. Therefore, the court issued show cause notice to the investigation officer and adjourned the hearing for September 17, 2016.

It needs to be mentioned here that on next date of hearing, the court would charge frame against these accused persons.

According to the prosecution, credible information was received that Iranian diesel was being smuggled through oil tanker from district Lasbella to Karachi, without complying with legal formalities.

During the checking, a Hino Oil Tanker bearing registration number TKZ-078 came from Lasbella at super highway was interacted near toll plaza. The officials recovered Iranian diesel that was confiscated under customs laws, besides arresting the accused persons.

A notice under Section 164 of the Customs Act, 1969 was served on the accused. FIR was lodged, crime no 1002/2016 under Section 1 and 8 of the Customs Act, 1969.
