LAHORE: Customs Airport officials in connivance with clearing agent have fraudulently deprived an overseas Pakistani of five valuable iphone 13 pro max, selling them in the market.
A per details one Salim Akhatar has complained that his brother Nasim Akhtar, an American citizen, who has been settled in the US for the last 38 years.
In his complaint, Salim stated that his brother who visited Pakistan after eight years brought along with him ten IPhone-13 Pro Max as the gift for family members.
However, the Customs officials seized the mobile after giving a record very memo number 780, he said, adding that the officials demanded kickbacks before impounding the mobiles for not confiscating the mobile but his brother refused.
The compliant said that his brother preffered paying duty and taxes instead of bribery.
“We did the same hairing a customs clearing agent Ab-u-Bakar Siddique. The additional collector adjudication ordered to release the phones as per law. However, the clearing agent in conivaince with customs inspector Ghulam Rasool managed to receive the phones originating a fake authority letter”, Saleem Akhtar said, adding that the agent handed him over five of the phones on April 30, 2022.
He further stated that it is now almost eight month he has not received his remaining phone despite the fact that he paid Rs12, 32000 in addition to Rs 300000 fee of the agent for his services.
He disclosed that the five remaining phones have been sold in the market, even though the clearing agent promised to deliver him the mobiles but after completion of the adjudication the clearing agent and the inspector received the mobile from inspector Amir Sidique without any authority.
The complainent urged the customs top authorities to initiate action against the clearing agent by cancelling his license and undertaking departmental proceedings against the customs officials involved in the fraud. He also sought help of the highups for the recovery of five of his mobile phones and the remaining amount.
When contacted inspector Ghulam Rasool said that all allegations against him are baseless and fabricated as he has never been assigned any duty in the said section. He said that Salim Akhtar, the compliment who accused him wanted him to arrest the clearing agent but he refused to act according to his wishes and finally, the complainent has nominated him in the application to settle his score.
When contacted Airport Collector Customs Asad Raza Rizvi could not be reached for his comment despite several attempts.
