LAHORE: The Customs officials have foiled an attempt to smuggle rare turtles at Allama Iqbal International Airport and handed over the suspect to Lahore Wildlife Park Department for further investigation.
A Chinese citizen, who was identified as Xi Hong bearing passport number G 24793530, was trying to smuggle 40 rare turtles from Lahore to Colombo Sri Lanka by hiding them in his luggage. Officials have also recovered Rs 3,750, $1,000 and 300 Youan form his possession.
The Customs officials have registered a case under Wildlife Act 2007 against the culprit whereas the accused has stated that he was unaware of the ban on exporting turtles.
DG Lahore Wildlife Park Department, Khalid Ayaz has appreciated the performance of Customs and Wildlife Anti-Smuggling Cell.
