Customs officials seize plastic goods worth Rs20m

LAHORE: Customs anti-smuggling unit has impounded smuggled Iranian made shopping bags and plastic dana worth at least Rs 20 million at the Defense Road Gajumata.

Sources said that the anti-smuggling scout confiscated 250 bags of plastic dana and 2,370 bags of Iranian made shopping bags loaded in ten buses. Four smugglers namely Shahid, Nazeer, Qasim and Shafiq were identified as residents of Kahna.

Sources added that the smugglers were busy making the smuggled goods and articles look like local ones. 70 tonnes of smuggled plastic dana and shopping bags were to be dumped into the local market destroying the business of the traders who undertake legal trade and pay their due tax.

The sources informed that the smugglers have submitted an application urging the Customs authorities to return their smuggled goods after charging due customs duty.

The seizure is one of the biggest of its type which was conducted by senior anti-smuggling officers including Waqar Cheema, Syed Akhtar Joya, Khalid Butt and other officials.
