Customs’ PCA detects five cases of Rs 103m tax evasion in May, 2015

KARACHI: The Directorate of Post Clearance Audit, Customs in May, 2015 has detected five case of tax evasion in different terms including custom duty/regulatory duty, sales tax, withholding tax and others amounting to Rs 103 million approximately.

According to the details, PCA has detected two cases in which the unscrupulous elements mis-declared the value and involved in misusing of SRO659 (I)/2007.

Sources informed Customs Today that Rs 3.18 million were evaded in terms of custom duty and Rs 3.29 million in share of sales tax and withholding tax in the said two cases.

The Directorate of Post Clearance Audit also detected a case in which the importer tried to evade Rs 56.67 million in share of sales tax on import of Poly Propylene Tape Grade.

It also detected a tax evasion case in which the importer was tried to evade Rs 39.45 million in wake of income tax on import of Q-Brand GSM mobile phones by misusing the Customs General Order No. 12/2002.

The PCA in their continue efforts towards detecting tax evasion cases also detected a case of mis-declaration of value and non-application of valuation ruling in terms of custom duty amounting to Rs 104,142 and sales tax Rs 387,808.

While, PCA Director Gul Rehman has very much satisfied with the efforts done by the officials and officers of PCA-Customs in detecting tax evasion cases and carried out legal proceedings in this regard.
