KARACHI: The Directorate of Customs Post Clearance Audit has shown outstanding performance and detected 12 cases in January.
Source told Customs Today that Directorate of Customs Post Clearance Audit has detected duties and tax evasion of Rs 9.45 million allegedly by M/s Rana Waheed Traders, Karachi, it is learnt here.
Sources said that M/s Rana Waheed Traders, Karachi, imported a consignment of different type of imported plastic dinner set 72 pieces and got it cleared from the PICT vide GDs on November 26, 2017 by paying customs duty at 10 percent after claiming the benefits of the SRO 569/2007.
However, the subject items are correctly classifiable under the PCT 2145.2507 attracting customs duty at 14 percent and income tax at 12 percent, thus, by way of mis-declaration of classification, the company evaded/short-paid Rs 9.45 million. The consignment was cleared through Examiner Abdul Sattar Khan.
Sources said that the importer violated the provisions of Section 63 (2) of the Customs Act-1969, Section 16 read with Section 69 of the Sales Tax Act-1990 and Section 190 of Income Tax Ordinance 2001 punishable under clauses (246) and 164 of Section 635(8) of the Customs Act-1969, Section 80 of the Sales Tax Act-1990 and Section 92 & 122 of Income Tax Ordinance 2001 and Section 6-A of the Sales Tax Act-1990 read with chapter X of the Sales Tax Special Procedure Rules 2007 (special procedures for payment of sales tax by the importers) and under relevant provisions of Income Tax Ordinance 2001.
