Collector Customs also greeted the Customs staff with the advent of New Year, and said the New Year resolution needs to curb the menace of smuggling by plugging the leakages of Pakistan Custom’s exchequer.

The Collector Customs said the Customs House Peshawar is preparing a draft to ask the Federal Board of Revenue to increase the Customs staff in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to fill the space created by vacant posts.

The Collector Customs added that three inspectors of Customs House Peshawar have been transferred to Torkham Customs Station to tighten the check and balance of the movement of Afghanistan-bound vehicles.

The Collector Customs further said that, due to strict and hard rules applied by Customs House Peshawar, Rs367.87million have been generated by impounding Non-Duty-Paid goods and vehicles while 111 cases of smuggling registered against accused smugglers up to December 2017.

The Peshawar Collectorate has seized drugs worth Rs2million in December in different raids conducted by the Anti-Smuggling Units in Peshawar city while a revenue of Rs1.5million has been earned through seizure of NDP goods and vehicles by the Anti-Smuggling Units of Mardan, Nowshehra and Kohat in December.

The Collector Customs lauded the work done by the high-ups, Customs Police and officials posted at different Customs check-posts for frustrating the smuggling and providing security to the trading vehicles going out of the borders.
