Customs Port Qasim lodges FIR against M/s M.R. Furns for tax evasion, mis-declaration

KARACHI: Model Customs Collectorate Port Qasim has detected illegal clearance of consignment of iron scrap  and launched a case against the importer.

According to sources M/s M .R.Furns imported 12 containers of iron scrap through mis-declaration and under-invoicing, causing loss of Rs4 million to national kitty.

Sources said that Collector Port Qasim Saeed Akram received a tip-off that M/s M.R. Furns tried to get the consignment passed through illegal ways so he directed Additional Collector Khalil Yousfani to keep strict eye on iron imports from Dubai. When their team inspected the consignment carefully they found five containers of aluminum scrap and seven containers of steel.

Sources said that importer’s goods declaration file was showing value of all containers just $25,000 while on inspection the Customs authorities found real worth of the consignment at $138,000.

A case has been lodged against the accused and further investigations are underway.
