Customs Preventive foils bid to smuggle 44,650 euros from Lahore airport

LAHORE: The Customs authorities foiled a bid to smuggle 44,650 euros from Allama Iqbal International Airport the other day.

Sources told Customs Today that Customs Inspector Shahnawaz Langriyal intercepted a woman who wanted to go to Istanbul. The Customs authorities searched the woman and recovered the euros worth Rs 5,219,135.

The customs authorities said that the lady violated the Customs Act 1969 and was arrested and booked under customs Act 1969 under section 16-139-156 and others.  The authorities after arresting the lady seized the foreign currency.

The sources on the other hand said that the lady was a businesswoman and was not aware of the legal procedure of the carrying foreign currency more than $10000.

The Customs Investigation and Prosecution (I&P) produced the lady before the Customs Special judge who sends the accused lady on judicial remand for 14 days.

The sources said that the punishment for committing the crime of smuggling currency is 14 years.
