Customs Preventive foils bid to smuggle foreign currency from Karachi airport

KARACHI: The Customs Preventive team has recovered foreign currency worth millions of rupees from the possession of a passenger during a raid at Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) Karachi.

According to the details, the staff of the Pakistan Customs Preventive deputed at the departure, after getting a tip-off, intercepted a female passenger named Fahmeeda and asked her for getting checked her luggage and travel documents.

During the search, the officers recovered one lac Saudi Riyal from her. The value of the Saudi currency is equal to Rs 2.9 million.

According to the source, Hameeda was travelling to Sharjah through Air Arabia flight no 548. The Customs officers have also taken the remand of the suspect through court whereas further investigation is underway.

The source further stated that the culprit is expected to be a member of a money laundering group but the matter will be resolved after the complete investigation.

The culprit kept the foreign currency in her hand bag which was checked in the last after complete search of the language, the source added.
