KARACHI: The Customs Preventive team has foiled a bid to smuggle a huge quantity of gold ornaments and foreign currency notes at the Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) Karachi, it is learnt.
According to sources, Deputy Collector Amjad Aman Leghari intercepted three passengers who were boarding a flight to the United Arab Emirates.
While on thorough search of their luggage, the customs authorities under supervision of DC Amjad Aman Leghari recovered 10kg gold jewelry worth Rs 79 million and Rs 15 million foreign currency notes that included Saudi riyals, UAE dirhams and US dollars from the three passengers.
The passengers have been arrested for further investigations. In this regard, the Pakistan Customs has arranged a press conference to be addressed by Chief Collector Enforcement South Zahid Khokhar, Additional Collectors Feroz Alam Junejo and Khalid Hussain Jamali and Deputy Collector Amjad Aman Leghari at Air Freight Unit on Wednesday.
The customs officers would brief the media about the details of the seizure.
