Customs Preventive for stern actions against smuggling cartels

KARACHI: The Model Customs Collectorate Preventive with the approval of Enforcement-South Chief Collector Zahid Khokhar has decided to take steps on war footings in order to bust smuggling cartels activated at Balochistan-Sindh border, it is learnt here.

The sources informed Customs Today that a high level meeting was recently held under the supervision of Chief Collector Zahid Khokhar in which he directed the Customs Preventive and Gwadar Customs to evolve an effective strategy to curb the menace of smuggling.

They further said that the Customs Preventive has started working to evolve a strategy with the coordination of Gwadar Customs in order to burst the smuggling cartels.

The sources further informed that the customs has decided to beef up the security at check post established at Karachi-Quetta Border, adding that the scanning of each and every vehicle would be carried out on a daily basis.

The customs received some intelligence reports that the smuggling cartels were active at Karachi-Quetta Border and making a plan to smuggle some contraband items in upcoming days, the sources said, adding that the smuggling of Iranian diesel and other contraband items was on rise.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Pakistan Customs in last few months has busted the smuggling cartel worked at Quetta-Karachi Border and also seized contraband smuggling items including cigarettes, Iranian diesel, tyres and other items worth millions of rupees.
