Customs Preventive impounds Rs5m non duty paid cigarettes

LAHORE: Customs Preventive Anti-Smuggling Organization Monday seized million of rupees illegally imported cigarettes and parts of bicycles from a goods transport agency near Railways Station.

Sources said that on information the ASO Squad No 2 of Customs Preventive seized 85 cartons of foreign origin non duty paid cigarettes of various brands along with 47 cartons/1000 kg of foreign origin bicycle parts of Hero, Nino, Phoenix brands.

It was added that the goods were being smuggled from Peshawar to Lahore and were being unloaded in a goods transport agency near Railway Station, Lahore. The estimated value of the goods is about Rs5 million, it was said.

The sources said that the customs authorities after registering a case have started further investigations into the case.

The sources said that the volume of crackdowns have been accelerated by the Collector of Customs Preventive Zulfiqar Younas and the seizure is also done in line with the instructions of the collector to curb smuggling activities in the city.

Recently the collectorate confiscated mega Rs 63 million skimmed milk from a Rice Mill near Muridkay. The dry and skimmed milk is being tested from forensic laboratory to know its impact on human body.
