Customs Preventive adopts ‘wait and watch’ policy on investigations into Vehicle Amnesty Scheme

KARACHI: The Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Preventive has adopted “wait and watch” policy on investigation into the Vehicle Amnesty Scheme (VAS).

Sources in licensing branch of MCC-Preventive informed Customs Today that the authorities concerned have completed the paper working regarding the investigation into VAS case in which the collectorate has already sent show-cause notices to 12 shipping agents.

Sources further said that the authorities concerned while following the directives of MCC-Preventive Collector Syed Muhammad Tariq Huda, were waiting for the report to be issued by Appraisement side in this case.

“The authorities concerned of MCC-Preventive would unveil its findings after the revelations by the committee which is investigating the Vehicle Amnesty Scheme (VAS) case”, they added.

They further said that the role of shipping agents were also limited in the importation of vehicles under amnesty scheme during the year2012-13 and the authorities concerned of MCC-Preventive has completed its investigation as per the directives of Federal Tax Ombudsman Office (FTO) in which it stated that the function of shipping agents into the case should also be evaluated.
