During the meeting, the chief collector stressed the need for eliminating the smuggling of Iranian petrol and diesel from each and every corner of the city. He added that security should also beefed up on National Highway and Super Highway.

Collector Preventive Dr Junejo briefed the chief collector about the strategy being evolved against smugglers and the people selling Iranian oil. He said that the Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) would start a crackdown against sale of Iranian oil from next week, adding that the assistance of the Pakistan Rangers and police would also be required to conduct result-oriented operation.

Khokhar assured the collector preventive that he would consult the Pakistan Rangers and police in this regard.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Customs Preventive conducted a successful operation in 2014 against a mafia selling smuggled Iranian diesel and petrol under the supervision of the then Collector Preventive Syed Muhammad Tariq Huda.

During the operation, the customs authorities had demolished and dismantle around 75 illegal petrol pumps in district west and outskirts of the city.

It may also be mentioned here that Preventive has also seized thousands of liters petrol and diesel from Super Highway a few days ago.
