Customs Preventive seizes non-duty paid Toyota Saloon, registers FIR against suspect

KARACHI: The Customs Collectorate of Preventive has registered the First Information Report (FIR) against a suspect, Khushal Khan, for his alleged involvement in tax evasion of Rs 8,400,012 and started investigation.

Senior Preventive Officer, Customs House, Karachi Azhar Malik, in the FIR mentioned that Khushal Khan (owner of the vehicle as per Motor Registration Authority tax payment slip and absconder in the case) was using smuggled or non-duty paid vehicle or being registered on fake/forged documents, Toyota Saloon Car (Supra), Registration No:BHM-561.

The FIR mentioned that other description of Toyota Saloon Supra, includes chassis no:JZA800011128, engine no:2JZ-430011, Model 1993, 3000 CC, and the appraisement collectorate estimate Rs 3, 172, 980/- .

The FIR also mentioned that Customs Preventive Office’s Anti Smuggling Organisation, had found the Toyota Hi-Lux Surf parked near Masjid-e-Tooba, Karachi.

According to the FIR, after receiving credible information regarding the case, a team was formed to trace the mentioned vehicle and found it in Defence Housing Authority locality. When the Customs team reached close to the vehicle, apparently sensing the danger of apprehension, the occupant of the vehicle skipped away leaving behind the Toyota Saloon Supra.

As per the FIR, Customs team waited considerable time but no-one turned-up to claim the vehicle, and search was conducted in presence of musheers namely, sepoy Mohsin Mughal and sepoy Abdul Moaiz.

The FIR further said that separate inventory was also prepared and police forensic examination and verification from concerned quarters were also asked.

It stated that forensic test report No:AIG/FD/Veh/OR/159/2017 received from AIG Police Forensic Division Sindh, conformed that no other number has been deciphered under the present chassis serial (JZA80-0011128) and M/s PRAL Customs, User Support Group, Custom Karachi confirmed through email that record of import of vehicle bearing the similar chassis number has not found in the system.

The FIR claimed that the vehicle has been seized for violating Section 2(s) and 178 of Customs Act, 1969 punishable under clause (8) and (89) of Section 156(I) ibid.
