LAHORE: Customs Preventive authorities deputed at Allama Iqbal International Airport have foiled bid to smuggle 40 grams of gold jewelry to Saudi Arabia.
Customs official sources told Customs Today that on suspicion on account of the ongoing strict drive against the smugglers the customs authorities searched a passenger who wanted to leave for Dubai and recovered 40 tolas of gold jewelry worth Rs 2 million.
The sources said that the customs authorities seized the gold and let the passenger go as the quantity of gold was not huge. The gold was impounded in the name of the state
The sources said that the operation was conduced in connection with the on-going drive of the Customs Preventive collectorate against the money laundering and smuggling of any other item.
The gold was seized by the customs authorities in the presence of additional collector and two other officials of the customs airport authorities. The customs authorities registering case have further investigation in the case.
