Customs Preventive seizes smuggled betel nuts worth Rs16m

KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs Preventive Anti-Smuggling Organization’s (ASO) crackdown against smuggling of contraband items specially the betel nuts gets momentum.

According to the details, the staff of the Collectorate has busted another huge quantity of smuggled betel nuts consignment worth million or rupees.

Deputy Collector Customs Headquarters Muhammad Faisal reacting over the secret information regarding the smuggling of the contraband items, constituted a team to conduct a raid at the City railway station.

Supervising the team of the Customs Preventive Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO), Deputy Collector Customs Headquarters Muhammad Faisal directed to conduct a complete search of a luggage train at Karachi city station.

The team of ASO during the search found a bogey of the luggage train full of sacs containing smuggled betel nuts which worth Rs16 million in the market.

Along with the several sacs of the smuggled betel nuts, the team also recovered Indian-origin gutka and cigarettes. The seizure is said to be the forth in recent days that resulted confining contraband items in huge quantity. The case against the smugglers has been lodged and investigation has been started.

Collectorate of Customs Preventive Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) has kept en eagle eye over the railways route to avoid any kind of smuggling.

It is worth mentioning here that the team of Customs Preventive Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) reacting over the information received by Collector Preventive Dr Iftikhar Ahmed conducted several raids at city station and recovered huge quantity of smuggled betel nuts consignments from different trains that arrived Karachi.
