Customs Preventive seizes smuggled goods, falcons & houbara bustards

KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs Anti Smuggling Organization (ASO) has seized huge quantity of smuggled goods, Falcons and houbara bustards.
According to sources, Collector Preventive Saquib Saeed received credible information about some smuggling attempts. He immediately constituted anti-smuggling squad to thwart any attempt of smuggling.
The anti-smuggling squad intercepted a trailer containing 20 tons of foreign origin prime quality raisin at Mochku choke point. The value of seized raisin is Rs11.4 million, while the total value of seizure is Rs20.4 million.
During another crackdown with Sindh Rangers at Moachko choke point, ASO Preventive seized 8 Falcons valuing Rs12 million, and 11 Houbara Bustards worth Rs1.1 million. The bird is on the endangered list of Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). The birds will be handed over to wildlife department after completion of necessary procedure.
