ISLAMABAD: A team of Customs Preventive, under the supervision of Superintendent Zargham Dil, has seized smuggled goods and vehicles worth Rs 8.38 million in five late-night raids during a special operation.
According to details, the post-midnight operation was launched on a tip-off, which came from reliable sources. The team also impounded the five vehicles on which the smuggled goods were being transported. Customs Collector Zeba Hai Azhar has appreciated the efforts of the raiding team headed by Zargham Dil for foiling the smuggling bid.
According to the information obtained, the Model Customs Collectorate Islamabad’s Customs Preventive team received information from reliable sources that non-duty paid goods would be smuggled from Peshawar to other parts of the country. Acting on this information, a team of Customs Preventive and Customs Investigation and Prosecution (I&P) was formed, which was headed by Superintendent Zargham Dil. This anti-smuggling operation began after midnight and continued until the wee hours.
In the first raid, the team seized a 222kVA England-made Perkins generator set and a diesel engine frame, having an accumulative value of Rs 3.17 million. The team also impounded the mini-truck having registration number LES-2016 on which this engine was being transported.
In the second raid, the Customs Preventive team seized 540kg smuggled cotton fabrics worth Rs 242,352 and impounded a Suzuki Bolan having registration number LEE-14-7078. During the third successful raid, the team seized 960kg foreign-origin aluminium foil worth Rs 195,840 and impounded the truck having registration number FDF-5576. The aluminium foil had reportedly been imported under the Afghan Transit Trade.
During the fourth raid, the authorities seized Chinese iron pad locks, two foreign-origin 4-cylinder petrol engines and 2,784kg alloy rims, having an accumulative value of Rs 733,000.
In the last raid, the customs officials seized 4,219kg Chinese crockery worth Rs 443,180, besides impounding a truck having registration number LES-586.
