Customs Preventive submits another FIR in betel nuts smuggling case

KARACHI: Collectorate of Customs Preventive submitted another first information report (FIR) before Customs Court against unknown suspects, who were booked in a case of attempting to smuggle non-duty paid betel nuts and other contraband goods.

On September 25, 2018, Investigation Officer Muhammad Tayyab Khan, SPO/ASO submitted first information report and informed that a credible information was received by the officials that huge quantity of non-duty paid betel nuts and other goods loaded in a railway wagon has arrived from Lahore for onward delivery at M/s Baber Cargo Service & Goods Transport Company TPX Railway Dry Port, Karachi.

He further informed the court that pursuant to said information a customs team reached the spot and recovered 7080 kilograms betel nuts valuing at Rs1,755,840 and after the successful raid, the  said goods were seized and a case was registered for violation of Section 2 (s) 156 (2) and 178 of Customs Act, 1969 punishable under Clauses 8 & 89 of Section 156 (i) ibid read with Section 3 (i) of Import & Export Control Act, 1950.

Investigation officer said that prosecution is trying its best for arrest of culprits, who are involved in this crime. After the hearing, court took the FIR into court record and directed him to complete investigations and submit charge-sheet on next date of hearing.
