Customs Preventive gearing up efforts to curb smuggling of contraband items

KARACHI: The Customs Collectorate Preventive has decided to further enhance the security at airports and sea borders in order to curb smuggling and bust the gangs which are behind the illicit activities.

A decision to his effect has been taken by Collector Customs Preventive Syed Muhammad Tariq Huda after the incident in which the Customs authorities at airport seized a huge quantity of heroin from a flight of a national carrier.

In this regard, the Collector Preventive SM Tariq Huda held a meeting of the officers at his office in which he emphasized to be more vigilant at the arrival and departure sections of the airport in order to uproot smuggling activities from the country.

Sources informed Customs Today that Collector Huda is going to hold a meeting with Chief Collector-Enforcement (South) Zahid Khokhar to discuss the issue.

The sources further said that the Collector Preventive would apprise the Chief Collector-Enforcement (South) about the steps being taken by the Collectorate in order to launch an operation against the smuggling of contraband items through sea routes and airport.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Customs authorities have been vigilant on smuggling activities and has kept a vigilant eye over the smuggling activities and also seized millions of worth contraband items during last three months ot so.
