Customs Preventive expedites operation at airports against smugglers

KARACHI: Customs Preventive has expedited its operation against gold and currency smugglers at different airports across the country.

According to the sources, the staff deputed at different airports were directed to strictly check the luggage of foreign travelers to stop smuggling of the currency and gold.

The source further stated that operations have been accelerated because the prices of gold across the world are decreasing and it is obvious that the culprits will definitely smuggle the dollars to other countries through different sources.

The operations have been geared up at all airports at the same time so that heinous crime can be stopped along with total elimination of culprits posing serious threats and causing millions of rupees loss to exchequer, the sources added.

The source also said that in the first phase of the operations customs officers have been deputed at the airports in civil dress so that they can travel on domestic as well as international flights to easily identify the smugglers. The officers and staff deputed at the airports have been advised for strict checking as they are given authority to call any traveler for checking on suspicion of smuggling of dollars. Also special raids are being conducted against criminals involved in drug smuggling.

The source stated that on the instructions of higher authorities, the Customs officers are also compiling data and underlining the requirements for special and digital measures to curb and control smuggling of currency as well as contraband items at all airports of the country.
