LAHORE: Lahore Customs Preventive has seized over 25 kilograms of gold worth over Rs 160 million at the Allama Iqbal International Airport during 11 months of the current fiscal year 2014-15.
According to details, the Collectorate seized 4.380 kilograms of gold jewellary and gold bars worth Rs 16 million in September while it impounded another 2.550 kilograms of gold ornaments and diamonds worth Rs 5 million during the month of October 2014-15 at the airport.
Similarly, the Lahore Customs Preventive confiscated 10.038 kilograms of gold from passengers who were coming from Dubai worth Rs 39 million during the month of November and during the same month the customs authorities seizes another 15 kilogram of gold worth Rs 90 million from the accused Abdul Basit.
Basit was caught with 15 kilograms of gold biscuits and foreign currency worth Rs 32 million. He wanted to smuggle the currency and gold to Dubai from Pakistan.
The told quantity of the gold was confiscated by the MMC Preventive on the instruction of Collectors of Customs Mukarram Jah Ansari under the supervision of DC Saqib Wariach.
