Customs Recovery Department starts crackdown on defaulters

SIALKOT: Assistant Collector Fahad Bashir Choudhary said that that Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has instructed all Customs Collectorates in the country to use all legal resources for recovery of dues.

While talking to Customs Today in his office after completion of 2 months leave, Fahad said that the Customs Department is taking keen interest in recovering departmental dues from defaulters. He said that the Recovery Department is in full swing to recover departmental dues from defaulters and has already issued notices to 32 defaulters of Rs1 billion. Whereas the officials of Recovery Department have contacted to Revenue Department Sialkot, Gujrat and Gujranwala Districts to attach movable and immovable properties of defaulters.

However the official of Recovery Department has wrote letters to the heads of concerned banks of defaulters to seize bank accounts of defaulters. He said that the some parties have contacted officials of Recovery Department and these parties have beseech that department allow some time them and they will pay departmental dues after arrangements of proper amount. He said that the department has instructed them that they must file affidavit with guarantee of two competent persons or parties otherwise beseech will not accept. He said that the time period of issuance notices has been ended. The department will start it’s function against defaulters as per Customs Act 1969 and Customs Law and will get help of local Police to recover departmental dues from defaulters. The department has requested NADRA for verification of address and names of defaulters which they have showed in their Computerized National Identity Cards. Superintendent Recovery Department Sardar Manzoor said that all process have been completed and action will be started soon as per law.
