KINGSTON: The Jamaica Customs Agency (JCA) says it collected 17 per cent more revenues for the 2016/17 fiscal year or $27.4 billion more than the previous year. Commissioner of Customs Velma Ricketts Walker says the agency collected $188.5 billion in net revenues, an increase of $27.4 billion.

The Customs agency boss attributed the uptick in revenues to an increase in business and efficiencies from the use of the new Customs Automated System, ASYCUDA. Ricketts Walker told the annual general meeting of the Custom Brokers and Freight Forwarders Association yesterday that about 93,000 declarations were processed in the Customs Automated System over the 2016/2017 fiscal year. She says almost 98,000 domestic containers were landed over the period.
