ISLAMABAD: Collectorate of Customs and Directorate General Customs Intelligence and Investigations has sought policy guideline from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) about smuggled cellular phones.
Sources told Customs Today that the customs authorities proposed the FBR that solving of this issue will enhance revenue generation for the department. Sources said that till now there is no clear policy to sell the seized mobile phones and earn revenue or destroy them. Sources said that mobile phones are not declared as notified items which creates lot of confusion for the customs authorities. These sources said that huge quantity of costly mobile phones are lying in warehouses.
They said that after passage of some time these mobiles will be treated as scrap because new mobiles are coming in markets on daily basis and these seized mobiles are losing their values.
