Customs seized contraband items worth Rs 60 million in 3 months

KARACHI: The Anti-Smuggling Organization Model Customs Collectorate MCC Preventive has seized around Rs 60 million worth of contraband goods from November 2014 till now.

Assistant Collector MCC Preventive Syed Muhammad Raza Naqvi told Customs Today at his office that ASO in a fresh operation against the smugglers has seized a consignment of smuggled goods amounting to Rs 15 million. He further said that the seized smuggled consignment contain miscellaneous goods including Indian ‘gutka’, tyres and clothes.

The Assistant Collector further said that the Chief Collector Enforcement-South Muhammad Nazim Saleem and Collector MCC Preventive S M Tariq Huda have laid special emphasize on uprooting smuggling activities and have issued clear directives in order to eliminate those illegal activities.

He further said that continual improvement is being witnessed in the activities of ASO and those activities will improve further by the passage of time. He added that a comprehensive strategy has been evolved in order to eliminate smuggling activities through sea routes and other means.

Support of other agencies including Maritime Security Agency, Pakistan Coast Guards and Anti-Narcotics Force is with the Pakistan Customs and all the border security agencies are on the same page in connection with uprooting the smuggling activities from the country, he added.
