Customs seizes 191 mobile phones at Benazir airport

RAWALPINDI: Customs officials have foiled a bid to smuggle 191 mobile phones into Pakistan at Benazir Bhutto International Airport.

Authorities said the Customs checkout of passengers who arrived on Thai Airways flight TG-349 was in progress at BBIA when staffers spotted two passengers leaving the customs hall without getting their luggage scanned.

Baggage belonging to both passengers, one of whom was from Malakand and the other from Jhelum, was searched and led to the recovery of 138 and 53 mobile phones from their luggage, respectively.

A spokesperson for Pakistan Customs said the mobile phones were seized by Customs authorities and cases were registered against the suspect.
