Customs seizes 20 antique coins from two passengers

ISLAMABAD: Customs Intelligence has seized antique coins from passengers going to Thailand here at Islamabad Airport.

On 14-08-2013 at about 10.15pm, two passengers, later on identified as Subhan Ullah and Zakir Ullah and residents of Peshawar, having passport No. Z62445301 and AA5323522 respectively, departing to Bangkok via flight No. 350, were found suspicious. Personal search of the aforesaid passengers who were travelling together led to the recovery of twenty antique coins. The coins were accordingly detained and sent to the Directorate General of Archeology & Museums, Islamabad for expert opinion. The Directorate General Archeology & Museums verified that all of 20 coins are antique, belonging to Kushan period. Sixteen coins pertaining to the period from 250 to 465 A.D. are made of inferior quality of gold whereas three gold coins and one gold pendant dated back to 2nd century A.D. The detained antique coins have been seized under the Customs Act, 1969 and further investigation is in progress.
