Customs seizes 205g heroin worth Rs 2m from IMO Chaklala

ISLAMABAD: Customs Collectorate Islamabad team deputed at International Mail Office (IMO) Chaklala seized 205 grams of heroin being smuggled to USA. The value of the said heroin in international market is around Rs 2 million. It is fourth consecutive seizure of heroin in recent past under the supervision of Additional Collector Khawaja Naeem.

Sources told Customs Today that different consignments were intercepted by the customs team at the IMO leading to successful seizure of heroin. The customs staff at International Mail Office Chaklala seized 205 grams of heroin while being smuggled out of the country. The drug was concealed in leather cover of a book which was booked from Nowshera (KPK). The narcotics have been seized, and an FIR has been lodged and investigation of the case is underway.

Additional Collector Air Freight Unit (AFU) Khawaja Naeem said that names of the smugglers does not disclose this time because anti smuggling squads are in search of them, after the smugglers will arrested the name would be disclose to media.

It is necessary to mention here that since assumption of charge of the post of Collector of Customs Collectorate Islamabad by Dr Arslan Subuctageen, the IMO has made four major seizures of heroin in a short span of time. The seizures included 700 grams, 1.75 kg, 205grams and seizure of 320 grams. Total value of the said seized heroin in four cases is around Rs35 million.

During this period of 2-3 months, the manual scanning process has been improved through effective monitoring and supervision.
