Customs seizes 5kg cocaine, arrests 1 woman at Dubai Airport

DUBAI: A woman was arrested for possessing and smuggling more than five kilograms of cocaine.

Col Mohammad Thani Hareb, Director of the Anti-Narcotics Department, said that the African woman, A.M., was arrested at Dubai International Airport in April.

Another Asian man was also arrested in April for attempting to smuggle 350 grams of hashish in his shoes.

A.M. was stopped after an officer noticed her suspicious body language. She was walking heavily and seemed anxious.

Col Hareb said a female officer searched her and found two pieces of cloth filled with a total of 5.15kg of cocaine. The women was coming from a South American country and heading to Lusaka, Zambia.

A.M. confessed to her crime and said she did it for the money.

The Asian man, M.O.S., 29, was caught with 350 grams of hashish hidden in his shoes. The Dubai resident admitted that he got the drugs from his home country.

Both suspects have been transferred to the public prosecution.
